Looking at a number of letters that my grandfather saved in a tin box , I found a number of letters addressed to " Scioto Furnace ,Scioto County , Ohio " . These letters are dated 1865 to 1879 . The family members involved are primarily Jacob L. Kerr and his wife, Sarah ( Combs ) Kerr and their family . Their offspring were : Josephine , Lizzabelle , John , Sophia ,George , Eugene , Gaddis , and Hubert . I can follow Jacob and most of the family but I believe Sarah died in Scioto Furnace. The only
other information I have is that Jacob L Kerr married Sarah Combs in Scioto Co on
September 18 , 1851. Also , Sarah was born February 22 , 1836 in Ohio ( no city mentioned ) and died October 1879 ( ? ) .

was born in Kentucky abt 1836. I also found a marriage record for Alexander Cole

I am looking for information on the Hageman, Hagaman, or maybe
even Hagemann family from the Portsmouth area. My mother-in-law's family came
from there, but she has little information on her family. Her mother was Anna
or Annie Hageman (sp?) and her middle name may have been Agusta (sp?). Her mother
must have had a daughter out of wedlock and her name was Elizabeth Hageman (sp?).
Her mother (Anna) moved to Cincinnati and the daughter lived with her for awhile,
before returning to the Portsmouth area and then the girl lived with her grandmother.
Anna Hageman was born about 1883. Elizabeth was born prior to 1912. Any help in
locating the family origins would be appreciated.

Hello, I live in England and have been researching my fam tree
for a few years. I have discovered that one of my English ancestors pops up on
US 1880 Census. I would love to share my research with anyone who is reseaching
the same common ancestor. Details are: Caleb Thompson (b1833 Eng) appears on US
Census 1880 living Portsmouth, Scioto, Ohio with wife Mary A and children: John
born 1860/1 Eng; Maria b1863/4 Eng; Alice b1865/6 Eng; Jerimiah (Jeremiah) b 1867
Eng; and Enoch b1869/70 Indiana. My Caleb Thompson is not on British 1881 Cen
nor 1901 Census. As there was no death entry I checked US Census to see if he
emigrated. I have checked today in London that there are children (named as above
with same birth years) all born in the district that my Caleb is from: Stourbridge,
Staffordshire, England. It seems that Caleb was attracted to Scioto area to migrate
to because he came from an area in Staffordshire rich in Iron too. He was a 'Puddler
of Iron' on British Census 1851 in Wordsley, Staffordshire. My line of the family
descends from Caleb's sister, Sarah Ann who married Thomas Lowe. I would be grateful
if you could put this message on your Genealogy Notice Board for members to view.
Many thanks Mary of Kent

Twenty years ago my Grandfather, (Charles Hall) took my wife

to see was a family tree I remember in the house (it was one of the things Grandpa
Hall specifically pointed out). The current guides (they were incredibly helpful
and friendly) had never seen the family tree (it was a single page, +/- 2'x3'
and the Halls (including my Mom (Susanne Hall Ripka) were in the lower right corner
of the tree. Does anyone have a copy of that document, or know where I should
look for it? I have searched your site, and find nothing about Halls, Ruhlman
(Grandma Hall Maiden name), or anyone else. Any help would be appreciated... my
Mom is now gathering some information, but it's incomplete at best, and much of
it anecdotal. Thanks for any help you can provide. Tom Ripka

Correcting Previous Query: My Grandmother's name is Malinda
Wright - she purchased over 46 acres in 1950 and recorded/filed a Will for which
I am getting runaround/coverup and completely unprofessional behavior from the
Scioto County Courthouse in my efforts to formalize clarification of who owns
what and what arrangements have been legally or illegally entered into with Ohio
Power & Light Company and Mead Paper Company regarding the land owned by 3 living
siblings Haskell Wright, Vanjia Grinage and their brother living in Columbus Ohio.
Live conversations with people answering Scioto Courthouse phone have resulted
in their giving me false fax numbers and telling me that I cannot verify anything
unless I come in person and telling me that some of their records have been "thrown
away over the years" and that they don't know the addresses or contact numbers
of those officials appropriately authorized to record, maintain or dispense Will
and Land Transactions, etc. The e-mail addresses published as contact information
by the Courthouse are non-working/outdated.

Had frustrating conversation with Scioto County Treasurer to
whom my family paid taxes for land purchased by my grandmother, Malinda Grinage
in or around 1950. I am trying to begin process of finding out exact coordinates
of the parcel owned by her heirs, my uncles and mother Haskell Wright and Vanjia
Grinage. Am unsuccessful getting anyone in the Scioto Courthouse to even identify
appropriate contacts for getting recorded Will of Malinda WRight; identifying
transactions involving Ohio Power & Light and Mead Paper Company over the years
- they are dispatching erroneous/non-working fax numbers via the telephoene. The
internet published contact information for the Commissioner and the Treasuer are
incorrect. Pleae help me begin identifying the land my family owns. Thank you.
